Corrective action is an improvement undertaken to a process to restore performance to the required standard. For example, if a service level agreement specifies a standard that 90% of travel requests are to be processed in 24 hours and the actual performance is that only 75% meet that standard, the client may request that the provider take corrective action to achieve the required standard. Corrective action involves exploring the root causes of the deficiency and initiating improvement, while preventative action seeks to avoid a recurrence.
