A prerequisite to category management is a full understanding of the category in terms of the attributes of demand for the category and the supply market for the category. Category analysis is broader than spend analysis, as the scope is both external and internal. It seeks to develop a comprehensive understanding of the stakeholders, demand profile, supply chain, suppliers and supply market characteristics. See also Spend Analysis.
