Alternative dispute resolution [ADR] includes a range of alternatives to litigation for resolving disputes between commercial entities. The popularity of the practice has grown as the time and cost required to bring cases to court has increased and the probability of a satisfactory outcome has become less predictable. Examples of alternative dispute resolution include negotiation, mediation, conciliation and arbitration. See also Arbitration and Negotiation.« Back to Glossary Index
